Type 6 steam chemical indicator
AXCP60 is a Type 6 steam chemical indicator manufactured by Axis/Kordon. It’s designed to verify reaching critical steam sterilization parameters, with a rapid result—typically within 3.5 minutes. It provides a clear visual signal when effective steam penetration has occurred inside sterilization packages
Description

INDICATIONS:
-
Internal pack monitoring in steam (autoclave) sterilization cycles.
-
Ensuring that steam penetrates through packaging and reaches the instruments inside.
-
Detecting sterilization errors due to incorrect packaging, improper loading, or autoclave malfunction.
-
Rapid quality assurance in medical facilities, pharmaceutical labs, or research settings using steam sterilization.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
-
Preparation:
-
Prepare your packs or trays according to standard sterilization protocol.
-
Ensure the pack is fully sealed and correctly loaded.
-
-
Placement:
-
Insert one AXCP60 indicator strip inside each sterilization package or tray, ideally in the area most difficult for steam to reach.
-
-
Sterilization:
-
Run the autoclave using the steam sterilization cycle (e.g., 121–134 °C, depending on load requirements).
-
-
Post-Cycle Inspection:
-
Remove the pack after the cycle completes.
-
Observe the strip: a full color change signifies that steam reached sufficient levels.
-
If the strip doesn’t change completely, it indicates insufficient exposure due to steam, time, or temperature issues.
-
-
Follow-Up Actions:
-
If the indicator passes, proceed with use or dispatch of the sterilized items.
-
If it fails, do not use the contents. Investigate packaging or loading method, then reprocess.
-
-
Documentation:
-
Record the cycle date, load ID, operator, and indicator result as part of your sterilization QA log.
